CRA Hosts John Sanders who will share new insights on the Historic Hotel Del Monte & 17 Mile Drive that has reshaped our local history. For those of you who may just may be curious learn more about:
Some of John's research findings will surprise you. And he has a new book upcoming that with new content, sharing all new highlights not yet published. John will reveal interesting and important details about the hotel's origins that historians have missed. You will hear how the widely accepted and repeated statements by historians on Crocker's development of the resort now needs to be rewritten. And of course, he includes how the hotel was a significant factor in putting Monterey on the world "destination" map for travelers of means. This storied Hotel Del Monte still operates on the campus of the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS). From someone who knows, our speaker, John Sanders worked at NPS for 31 years, introducing many visitors and dignitaries to the historic Del Monte. John just received 2nd place honors in the 2022 Monterey History Slam for the presentation "Technology Innovation in the Ancient Pueblo of Monterey, 1880."
