Publications about CarmelCRA Sponsored PublicationsOver the years the CRA has amassed a large amount of content written by its talented membership. This has resulted in hundreds of newsletters (now called The Voice) and other original publications including Stories of Old Carmel and the Carmel-by-the-Sea A-Z book. You can view the archives of The Voice here. Stories of Old CarmelIn 2016, in honor of the Centennial celebration of Carmel-by-the-Sea's 100th anniversary, the Carmel Residents Association published a book that highlighted stories of Old Carmel. This Centennial tribute is in its third printing and is comprised of 58 stories gleaned from the Old Carmel column in the CRA newsletter written by Connie Wright and Richard Flower. It reconstructs, in photographs, words and woodcuts the first 50 years of Carmel's history, including visits to the storied artist colony and famous visitors. This book is out of print, but may be available from used book sources. Carmel-by-the-Sea from A to ZThe CRA book Carmel-by-the-Sea from A to Z, available at no charge, offers helpful information about community resources. It connects interesting facts about historical and modern day Carmel-by-the-Sea to the letters of the alphabet in a fun and interesting way. Sponsored by CRA members, it brings our "Village in the Forest" to life. We have sent out copies of this book to new Carmel property owners and include a copy for new members. You can also pick up a free copy at Carmel City Hall or send us a message. Two Interesting Books about Carmel...but just two below. However, please visit our "Carmel Reading" page HERE. Carmel at Work and PlayBy Daisy F. Bostick and Dorothea Castelhun
Cover credits: The only book of its kind, Carmel at Work and Play was referred to and used by both leading Mayoral candidates in the celebrated Carmel-by-the-Sea election of 1986. This delightful book, now in its fourth printing, is full of amusing stories and early photographs of Carmel. Its lively descriptions paint a colorful picture of Carmel's Bohemian residents and point to a spirit still alive in this town. A unique book written about a unique village.
